Lady Falcons Drop Three In First Day of CIAA Round-Up

RALEIGH, N.C. - Saint Augustine's College gave a good effort but lost three games Saturday on the first day of the CIAA Softball Round-Up at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

The Lady Falcons were defeated by Virginia Union 6-3 after holding a one-run lead after the third inning. Roshonda Henderson (Warrenton, N.C.) and Sanqueesha Henderson (Warrenton, N.C.) each drove in a run to lead the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons lost 12-11 to Lincoln, Pa., after taking a one-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. The foursome of Dominique Brown (Detroit, Mich.), Michelle Shackleford (Landover, Md.), Ramadana Simmons (Atlanta, Ga.) and Angela Wood (Upper Marlboro, Md.) had two RBIs apiece for the Lady Falcons, who led 7-0 in the fifth inning before Lincoln, Pa., rallied.

In the nightcap, the Lady Falcons were defeated 9-1 by Virginia State. Wood had two hits and a run and JaNia Jones (Fayetteville, N.C.) drove in a run for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons continue play Sunday in the Round-Up. They face CIAA defending champion Chowan at 10 a.m., Saint Paul's at 12:30 p.m., and Bowie State at 5 p.m.
