Lady Falcons Thump Virginia Union For Third Straight Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior center Keyona Bryant (Springdale, Md.) finished with 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Saint Augustine's College to a 66-50 CIAA women's basketball victory over Virginia Union Thursday (Jan. 12) at Emery Gymnasium.
 
The Lady Falcons (8-5, 3-0 CIAA) won their third consecutive CIAA contest, and each win was by double digits. They are 5-0 at home in Emery Gymnasium this season.
 
Against the Lady Panthers (3-8, 0-3 CIAA), the Lady Falcons sprinted out to an 11-0 lead and were never seriously challenged. They led 33-23 at halftime and led by 10 or more points all but 30 seconds in the second half.
 
Senior guard Keianna Evans (Fayetteville, N.C.) and junior guard Jolisa Williams (Charles City, Va.) both scored nine points and Evans added five rebounds and four steals for the Lady Falcons, who outscored the Lady Panthers 30-17 in bench points.
 
Junior forward Scharlawn Hubbard (Akron, Ohio) had eight points and five rebounds, freshman guard Jasmine Cuffee (Norfolk, Va.) added seven points and sophomore guard Ebony Spencer (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore center Umeka Benson both scored six points. Sophomore guard Victoria Davis (San Diego, Calif.) had four points, four rebounds and four assists.
 
The Lady Falcons, ranked second in Division II in turnover margin, scored 22 points off 29 Lady Panther turnovers to help offset 29 turnovers of their own. The Lady Panthers, led by 13 points from Ashle Freeman, scored 21 points off turnovers. The Lady Falcons, though, held the Lady Panthers to 34 percent shooting while making 44 percent of their shots.
