Boxscore

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior center Keyona Bryant (Springdale, Md.) scored 18 points for Saint Augustine's College but the Lady Falcons went scoreless in the final 3:52 of a 75-63 loss to Winston-Salem State University Monday (Feb. 6) in a CIAA women's basketball game at the C.E. Gaines Center.

The contest was much closer than the first meeting between both teams, a 100-67 Lady Rams' victory in Raleigh, N.C., on Jan. 28. It was the most points allowed by the Lady Falcons this season.

In the rematch, the Lady Falcons were within 66-63 with 3:52 left on a deep three-pointer from the left corner by junior guard Jolisa Williams (Charles City, Va.). The trey capped a 7-0 run by the Lady Falcons (11-10, 6-5 CIAA, 1-4 Southern Division).  The Lady Falcons appeared poised to sneak out of the Gaines Center with a victory, but the Lady Rams (15-6, 10-1 CIAA, 3-1 Southern Division) scored the final nine points to sweep the season series.

Bryant was the only double figure scorer for the Lady Falcons. She was 4-for-15 from the floor, but made 10 of 12 free throws. Bryant is four points away from reaching the 1,500-career point plateau, which she is sure to get Saturday at Johnson C. Smith University.
Williams added nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Lady Falcons, who shot 30.2 percent for the game.

Sophomore forward Umeka Benson (Charlotte, N.C.) added six points and five rebounds in her second game back from knee injury but played eight minutes due to foul trouble. The Lady Falcons got some good minutes from sophomore center Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, N.Y./7 points, 6 rebounds) and freshman guard Denika Harden (Greensboro, N.C./6 points, 2-2 3-ptrs, 4 steals).

Jasmine Newkirk paced the Lady Rams with 21 points followed by Courtney Medley with 14 points and Schatavia Gray with 11 points. Monique Williams had 10 rebounds for the Lady Rams, who shot 52 percent in the second half.

The Lady Falcons will look to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday against CIAA Southern Division leader Johnson C. Smith University. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gym in Charlotte, N.C.
