Lady Falcons Win Twice On Second Day of CIAA Softball Round-Up

RALEIGH, N.C. – On Friday, Saint Augustine's College lost in the last inning and was victim to a blowout defeat at the CIAA Softball Round-Up. Saturday was a different story for the Lady Falcons, who eked out an 11-10 thriller over Elizabeth City State University and routed Virginia Union University 13-3 at Walnut Creek Complex.
 
The Lady Falcons (6-13 overall, 2-2 CIAA) held on for the win over ECSU in the seventh inning. With one out and two Lady Vikings on base, catcher Renitta White (Fr./Leland, N.C.) of the Lady Falcons tagged out a Lady Viking runner at the plate on the end of a double play. The out stopped a three-run rally by the Lady Vikings, who were behind 11-7 entering the top of the inning.
 
Cierra Neal (Fr./New Hill, N.C.) led the Lady Falcons with three RBI on 2-for-4 hitting including a two-run triple. Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan, Canada) added two RBI on 2-for-3 hitting, Brittany Jones (Sr./Detroit, Mich.) contributed two RBI on 2-for-3 hitting and Michelle Shackelford (Soph./Landover, Md.) drove in two runs on 1-for-4 hitting. Jennifer Plair (Soph./Hampton, Va.) was the winning pitcher for the Lady Falcons.
 
The Lady Falcons had a much easier time in the second game against Virginia Union. Tokarski paced the Lady Falcons with four RBI on 2-of-3 hitting including two doubles. Ramadana Simmons (Jr./Atlanta, Ga.) added three RBI on 2-for-3 hitting and Shackelford had two RBI on 1-for-3 hitting.
 
Simmons ignited the Lady Falcons to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run triple. The Lady Falcons added seven runs in the fourth inning to expand their lead to 13-3. Tokarski and Shackelford combined to drive in four runs in the inning with each player hitting a two-run double. Shackelford was the winning pitcher.

 
The Lady Falcons play two games Sunday on the last day of the event. They face Bowie State University at 9 a.m. and Lincoln (Pa.) University at 1 p.m.
