Game 1
Game 2
RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College was on the winning and losing ends of lopsided scores Sunday, March 11, 2012, on the final day of the CIAA Softball Round-Up.
The Lady Falcons fell 21-3 to Bowie State University in the morning, but regrouped by early afternoon to blank Lincoln (Pa.) University 14-0. Their record after the three-day event is 7-14 overall and 3-3 in the CIAA. They have won three of their last four games.
The shutout was the second this season for the youthful Lady Falcons, who have four freshmen and three sophomores on the current roster. It couldn't have come at a better time after the tough loss to perennial CIAA power Bowie State.
Renitta White (Leland, N.C.) is one of the freshmen making a huge impact on the team. She led the Lady Falcons with four RBI against Lincoln (Pa.) on 2-for-4 hitting including a two-run homer over the left field fence during a seven-run fourth inning. White, who also had an RBI double, leads the Lady Falcons with seven home runs this season.
Freshmen
Cierra Neal (New Hill, N.C.) and
Taylor Walters (Douglasville, Ga.) both added two RBI apiece. Neal singled in two runs in the first inning and Walters had a two-run double in the fourth. Four Lady Falcons each added an RBI including
LaKeisha Ford (Soph./Madison Heights, Va.),
Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan, Canada),
Michelle Shackelford (Soph./Landover, Md.) and
Brittany Jones (Sr./Detroit, Mich.).
Jennifer Plair (Soph./Hampton, Va.) tossed a two-hitter in five scoreless innings for the win.
The victory over Lincoln (Pa.) was a sharp contrast from the first game. The Lady Falcons actually led 3-1 heading into the bottom half of the third inning, but Bowie State exploded for 19 runs to seize control. Shackelford went 2-for-2 with one RBI for the Lady Falcons, and
Ramadana Simmons (Jr./Atlanta, Ga.) batted in a run.
The Lady Falcons return to action Thursday at Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA doubleheader. The first pitch is at 2 p.m.
