Softball Team Loses Doubleheader To Fayetteville State

Game 1

Game 2

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College was idle for 17 days before facing Fayetteville State University in a softball doubleheader, and it showed as the Lady Broncos beat the Lady Falcons 10-1 and 11-4 Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Buffaloe Road Park.

The Lady Falcons combined for eight hits and five errors in two games for their first conference defeats of the season. Despite the losses, the Lady Falcons remain second in the CIAA's Southern Division with a 4-2 record. The losses snapped a five-game win streak.

Seven of their hits came in the second game which they lost 11-4. Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan, Canada) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and LaKiesha Ford (Soph./Madison Heights, Va.) was 2-for-4 with a double. The Lady Falcons scored runs on RBIs by Michelle Shackelford (Soph./Bowie, Md.), Cierra Neal (Fr./New Hill, N.C.) and Taylor Walters (Fr./Douglasville, Ga.) and an error that scored Ford after she doubled to reach base.

Shackelford smacked a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning of the first game to stop a no-hitter by the Lady Broncos. The hit prevented a shutout in a 10-1 loss. The score was only 2-0 until the Lady Broncos (10-33 overall, 7-3 Southern Division) score three runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the seventh inning.

The Lady Falcons (11-16 overall) play again Saturday on Easter weekend when they host crosstown rival Shaw University in another divisional doubleheader at Buffaloe Road Park. The first game starts at 2 p.m. with the second game beginning approximately at 4 p.m.
