Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Big late-inning rallies by its opponents contributed to two Saint Augustine's University softball losses at the CIAA Round-Up I at Hawks Field on Saturday, March 9, 2013. The Lady Falcons were defeated by Chowan University 14-6 and Virginia State University 10-5.
"We didn't get hits and gave up too many errors," St. Aug Head Coach Nikki Bumpass said. "We'll give it another go [on Sunday.]"
In the first game, the Lady Falcons scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at 6-6, but the Hawks scored eight runs in the bottom of the same inning for the win. The game was stopped due to the eight-run rule.
Taylor Walters (So./Douglasville, Ga.) led the Lady Falcons with two RBIs, and
Michelle Shackelford (Jr./Bowie, Md.) and Hannah Stutts (So./Statesville, N.C.) each added an RBI.
Cierra Neal (So./New Hill, N.C.) had a team-high two hits and
Jo'Landa White (So./Leland, N.C.) scored two runs.
In the second game, Virginia State scored six runs in the last two innings to break open a 4-4 tie for the win. White sparked the Lady Falcons with three hits and added an RBI and a run scored.
LaKeisha Ford (Jr./Madison Heights, Va.) also collected an RBI.
The Lady Falcons (4-3-1 overall, 0-2 CIAA) continue play in the Round-Up on Sunday, March 10, 2013, against Elizabeth City State University. Game time is 3 p.m.
