Jo'Landa White's 3 HRs Power Lady Falcons To Sweep of Livingstone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – One week after her sister put on a home run hitting show at the CIAA Round-Up, Jo'Landa White (So./Leland, N.C.) went on a home run binge of her own for Saint Augustine's University on Friday, March 29, 2013.

Jo'Landa White hit three home runs in two wins over Livingstone College in a CIAA softball doubleheader at Buffaloe Road Park. She walloped one over the fence in a 15-2 Game 1 victory and added two homers in a 10-2 Game 2 triumph. Both games ended in the fifth inning based on the eight-run mercy rule.

The victories moved the Lady Falcons (12-5-1 overall) into a first place tie with Winston-Salem State and Fayetteville State in the Southern Division. All three teams are 4-0 in the division.

Jo'Landa White has seven home runs on the season which is second on the team behind her sister Daja, who leads the CIAA with eight home runs. Last week, Daja White (Fr./Leland, N.C.) smacked five home runs in three wins for the Falcons in the CIAA Round-Up which earned her league player of the week honors. The White sisters have hit 15 homers combined this season.

“We motivate each other,” said Jo'Landa White about Daja. “When I hit home runs, she is happy for me and when she hits home runs I am happy for her. It helps the team.”

Jo'Landa White credits a new batting stance for her long ball success against the Lady Blue Bears (9-13 overall, 0-6 Southern Division).

“I was chopping the ball before the change,” Jo'Landa White said. “Now I can see the ball and hit line drives.”

Jo'Landa White hit three of the Lady Falcons' four home runs in the doubleheader. Cierra Neal (So./New Hill, N.C.) added a homer in the first game for her third this season for the Lady Falcons, who lead the conference with 25 homers.

Jo'Landa White finished the day with six RBIs on 4-for-5 hitting and six runs scored in two games. The trio of Neal, Stutts and Jennifer Plair (Jr./Hampton, Va.) scored three runs apiece.

“It was a great job by the team today,” St. Aug Head Coach Nikki Bumpass said. “That was great hitting by Jo'Landa. Jo'Landa and Daja feed off each other. When they see their mom in the stands, it inspires them.”
