Box Score 2 LAURINBURG, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University lost to St. Andrews University 9-1 and 4-2 in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday, April 3, 2013.
The losses snapped an eight-game win streak for the Lady Falcons (14-7-1 overall), who have a big weekend ahead of them. The Lady Falcons visit defending CIAA champion Winston-Salem State University in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6, 2013, for first place in the Southern Division. Both teams are tied for first in the division standings at 6-0. The first game starts at noon.
On Sunday, April 7, 2013, the Lady Falcons visit Fayetteville State University, which is third in the Southern Division at 4-2. The first contest begins at 1 p.m.
“I had to rest some key players due to injuries,” St. Aug Head Coach Nikki Bumpass said. “Despite the injuries, we didn't come out aggressive on offense. We have to be more aggressive in conference play this weekend.”
In the first game against St. Andrews, the Lady Falcons scored their only run in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Hannah Stutts (So./Statesville, N.C.) which scored Daja White (Fr./Leland, N.C.). The Lady Falcons only trailed 3-1 after the score but St. Andrews scored two runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth to win by eight runs. The Lady Falcons were led in batting by White (2-for-3) and Stutts (1-for-1).
In the second game, the Lady Falcons led 2-0 in the top of the fifth. St. Andrews (13-20 overall) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one run in the sixth to gain the victory. Jolanda White (So./Leland, N.C.) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Ashia Nicholson (Fr./Asheboro, N.C.) was 2-for-3 for the Lady Falcons. Daja White scored both of the Lady Falcons' runs.
It was the first time in the last nine games that the Lady Falcons did not hit a home run.
