Jo'Landa White Homers In Doubleheader Losses to WSSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jo'Landa White (Soph./Leland, N.C.) cracked a solo homer for Saint Augustine's University in a CIAA softball doubleheader against Winston-Salem State University at Washington Park on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The Lady Falcons lost 12-0 and 10-2.

The home run is the eighth of the season for Jo'Landa White, who tied her sister Daja (Fr./Leland, N.C.) of the Lady Falcons for the CIAA lead. She sent a shot over the left center field fence in the fifth inning of the second game.

Jo'Landa White was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate on the day including a double in the first game. She had almost half of the Lady Falcons' nine hits combined against the Lady Rams. She was 3-for-3 in the second game.

Michelle Shackelford (Jr./Bowie, Md.) was 2-for-4 overall. The trio of Ashia Nicholson (Fr./Asheboro, N.C.), Daja White and Taylor Walters (Soph./Douglasville, Ga.) each had one hit for the Lady Falcons (14-9-1 overall).

In the second game, Nicholson earned an RBI on a fielder's choice to score Walters to trim the Lady Rams' lead to 5-1 in the second inning. The Lady Rams led 10-1 in the fifth inning before Jo'Landa White's homer.

The Lady Falcons tallied eight hits in the second game. Shackelford was 2-for-3 in that contest.
In the first game, the Lady Falcons managed one hit. The Lady Rams (24-14 overall) scored 10 runs in the second inning to build an insurmountable lead.

Both teams entered the doubleheader tied for first in the Southern Division at 6-0. With the losses, the Lady Falcons dropped to second place at 6-2 while the Lady Rams lead the division at 8-0. The Lady Falcons can claim second place in the division with a win over Fayetteville State University in their doubleheader on Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Fayetteville, N.C. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Lady Broncos are third in the division at 5-3.
