Lady Falcons Win Streak Ends In Loss To Lincoln (Pa.)

Box Score LINCOLN, Pa. – Sophomore guard Regime McCombs (Greenville, SC) led all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 10 three-point shooting, but Saint Augustine's University lost to Lincoln (Pa.) University 56-50 in women's basketball at Rivero Hall on Saturday, January 11, 2014. The loss ended the Lady Falcons' six-game win streak.

This was the away second game in three days for the Lady Falcons (3-1 CIAA, 8-5 overall). It was the second of five consecutive road contests.

McCombs was the only double-figure scorer for the Lady Falcons. Sophomore guard Porscha Walton (Chesterfield, VA) added eight points for the Lady Falcons, who shot 18 percent in the second half as Lincoln (Pa.) came back from a 12-point second half deficit.

The Lady Falcons led 48-42 on McCombs' three-pointer with 9:15 left, but that was the last field goal they would score. The Lady Lions went on a 14-2 run during that stretch with the only Lady Falcons' points coming on two free throws by sophomore forward Terri Jacobs (McDonough, GA) at the 1:16 mark.

"Extremely tough loss today," St. Aug Head Coach Rachel Bullard said. "Not scoring in the last nine minutes of the game will get you beat every time. We got shot attempts at the rim and could not finish them."

Jacobs grabbed 13 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who scored 28 points off 24 turnovers by the Lady Lions (1-4 CIAA, 7-7 overall). But the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Falcons 42-14 in points in the paint and 18-2 in fast break points to hand the visitors their first conference defeat.

"We made a lot of unforced errors [28 turnovers overall] which resulted in easy baskets on their end," Bullard said. "It was good to see Regime hit shots, but we fell short despite her outstanding effort."

Amani Clark scored 13 points and Cynthia Johnson added 12 points for the Lady Lions, who outscored the Lady Falcons 36-20 in the second half. Courtney Lucas registered 11 points.

McCombs scored 11 points on 3 of 5 three-point shooting in the first half as the Lady Falcons took a 30-20 lead into halftime. The Lady Falcons shot 42 percent while holding the Lady Lions to 27 percent shooting in the first half.

The Lady Lions led 9-8 early, but the Lady Falcons scored 15 of the next 17 points to lead 25-13 on McCombs' three-pointer. The Lady Falcons entered halftime with a 10-point lead.

Junior guard Li'Esa Barnett (Raeford, NC) scored the first basket in the second half for a 32-20 Lady Falcons lead, but the Lady Lions reeled off 14 straight points for a 34-32 lead. McCombs buried a trey to push the Lady Falcons ahead 45-38, but they were ice cold from the floor in the final nine minutes.

The Lady Falcons visit Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va., on Monday, January 13 at 5:30 p.m. This will be the third away CIAA game in five days for the Lady Falcons.

"Like always, we will go back to the drawing board so that we can get a win on Monday," Bullard said.
