Lady Falcons Rout JCSU 74-47 In Basketball

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior guard Ebony Spencer (Chesterfield, VA) and sophomore forward Terri Jacobs (McDonough, GA) led Saint Augustine's University with 13 points apiece in a 74-47 CIAA women's basketball victory over Johnson C. Smith University at Emery Gymnasium on Monday, February 17, 2014.

The contest was designated as the Think Pink game. The Lady Falcons played in pink uniforms to raise breast cancer awareness.
Jacobs added 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons in a resounding win over the Lady Golden Bulls to snap a six-game losing streak. The Lady Falcons won by 27 points which is the second-largest victory margin overall and the largest over a CIAA opponent this season. The Lady Falcons were defeated in their last five games by an average of 3.8 points.

"It was our mindset," St. Aug Head Coach Rachel Bullard said about the big win. "It was our will to want to get a win. I thought we played well together. We played as a unit. We did a lot of the little things well. We outscored them 32-18 in the paint. We held them to 30 percent shooting. We had 30 points off of their turnovers. We have not scored off of turnovers lately. Tonight, we played with a lot of heart."

The Lady Falcons improved to 2-6 in the Southern Division, 6-8 in the CIAA and 11-12 overall. The Lady Golden Bulls fell to 3-5 Southern Division, 8-6 in the Southern Division and 13-10 overall.

Both Jacobs and Walton highlighted a team effort for the Lady Falcons. Sophomore guard Regime McCombs (Greenville, SC) added 11 points while sophomore guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson (Temple Hills, MD) scored nine points and tied Walton with four steals. Senior forward Victoria Davis (San Diego, CA) finished with nine points, eight rebounds and six steals for the Lady Falcons, who amassed season highs in steals (19) and turnovers forced (35).

Both Spencer and McCombs scored nine first-half points as the Lady Falcons raced to a 40-19 halftime lead. The 21-point halftime margin is the second largest this season for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons extended their halftime lead to 49-19 early in the second half on a jumper by junior guard Li'Esa Barnett (Raeford, NC). The Lady Golden Bulls whittled the margin to 15 with under seven minutes left at 56-41, but the Lady Falcons spurted away from the visitors with a final 18-6 run.

Karina Bunch scored 17 points for the Lady Golden Bulls. She was their only double-figure scorer.

The Lady Falcons end their home schedule against Livingstone College at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, February 19. Game time is 5:30 p.m. Davis and Spencer will be honored along with the men's basketball and cheerleading seniors between the men's and women's games.
