Lady Falcons Topple Livingstone 66-54 On Senior Night

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore guard Porscha Walton (Chesterfield, VA) tied a career-high with 19 points and sophomore guard Lakiya Rouse (Greensboro, NC) added a career-high 16 points as Saint Augustine's University forced 28 turnovers to upend Livingstone College 66-54 in a CIAA women's basketball contest on Senior Night at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. It was the final home game of the season for the Lady Falcons.

The Falcons won their second straight game to improve to 3-6 in the Southern Division, 7-8 in the CIAA and 12-12 overall. The Lady Blue Bears dropped to 3-6 in the Southern Division, 7-8 in the CIAA and 12-13 overall.

Sophomore guard Regime McCombs (Greenville, SC) added 10 points for the Lady Falcons, who scored 32 points off turnovers. The Lady Falcons have forced an average of 31.5 turnovers in their two games this week. On Monday, February 17, the Lady Falcons forced Johnson C. Smith University to turn the ball over 35 times.

"It was defense again for the second game in a row," St. Aug Head Coach Rachel Bullard said. [The Lady Falcons] legs were tired but I told them they had to push through. It was mind over matter. I am proud of the girls. I think our minds are starting to get into the right place. We have to stay focused and get ready for Fayetteville State on Saturday."

Down 34-31 at halftime, the Lady Falcons continued to utilize their full-court press which wore down the Lady Blue Bears. The Lady Falcons forced 15 second-half turnovers which led to 17 of their 35 second-half points.

Sophomore guard Regime McCombs (Greenville, SC) scored the first five points during an opening 9-0 run to push the Lady Falcons ahead 40-34 in the second half. The Lady Falcons never looked back as they stretched their lead to 57-43 on a layup by sophomore forward Terri Jacobs (McDonough, GA) with 7:35 left.

The Lady Blue Bears cut the lead to seven with 3:19 left, but the Lady Falcons finished with a 7-2 run. Walton swished a three-pointer from the top of the key for a 66-52 lead with 58 seconds left to put the exclamation point on the game.

The Lady Falcons shot 41 percent in the second half to outscore the Lady Blue Bears 35-20. The Lady Blue Bears shot 24 percent in the second half.

Taylor Daniels finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Blue Bears. Tiffany Evans added 12 points.

The Lady Falcons had 15 steals in the contest. McCombs and Jacobs had three steals apiece and while sophomore guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson (Temple Hills, MD), Walton and senior guard Ebony Spencer (Chesapeake, VA) each collected two steals.

Rouse scored 11 points and Walton had eight points in the first half for the Lady Falcons. Rouse hit a three-pointer for a 15-8 Lady Falcons lead early in the game. The Lady Falcons maintained their lead at seven on a layup by Walton but the Lady Blue Bears ended the half on a 13-3 run for a three-point halftime lead.

After the Lady Falcons' victory, senior forward Victoria Davis and Spencer were recognized with three men's basketball players and one cheerleader between the women's and men's contests on Senior Night.

The Lady Falcons end the regular season on Saturday, February 22 against Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C. Game time is 2 p.m.
