Hill, Zanni Combine On No-Hitter For St. Aug In Loss To Bowie State

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Korey Hill (Virginia Beach, VA) and freshman Meranda Zanni (Phoenix, OR) combined on a no-hitter but Saint Augustine's University lost 2-1 to Bowie State University in the CIAA Softball Round-Up at Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Hill drove in the only run for the Lady Falcons in the top of the first inning. She scored sophomore Daja White (Leland, NC) on a sacrifice bunt for a 1-0 lead. Daja White reached base on a bunt single.

Bowie State (1-3 CIAA, 2-11 overall) came back to score two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Neither team scored the rest of the game.

Hill pitched two-thirds of the first inning before Zanni took over. Zanni struck out three and walked one in five and one-third innings. Junior Taylor Walters (Douglasville, GA) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Falcons (1-3 CIAA, 6-16 overall), who had six hits.

This is the third no-hitter involving Hill this season. She threw a perfect game in a 21-0 victory over Voorhees College on February 25th, retiring 15 batters in five innings including 12 strikeouts. The freshman tossed a no-hitter in a 5-0 win against Elizabeth City State University on March 9, striking out 10 batters in seven innings

The Lady Falcons resume play in the CIAA Roundup on Sunday, March 23. They face Lincoln (Pa.) University at 10 a.m. and Virginia Union University at 3 p.m.
