Lady Falcons Upend Lincoln (Pa.) 23-4 In Softball

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Korey Hill (Virginia Beach, VA) had five RBIs to lead Saint Augustine's University over Lincoln (Pa.) University 23-4 at the CIAA Softball Round-Up held at Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

The Lady Falcons were scheduled to play Virginia Union University on Sunday, but the game was moved to Monday at 10 a.m. due to inclement weather.

Hill was 3-for-3 at the plate including an inside-the-park home run which scored two runs. She also gained the pitching win after throwing two and one-third innings. Junior Hannah Stutts (Statesville, NC) threw the final two and two-third innings in relief of Hill and struck out four batters with no walks.

Senior Michelle Shackelford (Bowie, MD) was 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Senior Jennifer Plair (Hampton, VA) and senior LaKeisha Ford (Madison Heights, VA) both were 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Ford had two runs scored and a double. Junior Jo'Landa White (Leland, NC) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, and freshman Meranda Zanni (Phoenix, OR) was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Daja White (Leland, NC) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Junior Cierra Neal (New Hill, NC) and Plair each scored three runs to lead the Lady Falcons (2-3 CIAA, 7-16 overall). They, along with junior Taylor Walters (Douglasville, GA), each had two stolen bases and Walters added two runs scored.

The Lady Falcons led 17-0 through the second inning. Lincoln (0-3 CIAA, 0-3 overall) scored three runs in the top of the third but the Lady Falcons tacked on five runs in the bottom of the inning for a 22-3 lead. The Lady Falcons scored one run in the fourth inning and Lincoln scored one run in the fifth inning for the final score.

The Lady Falcons scored 20 or more runs for the third time this season. They defeated Voorhees College 31-3 and 21-0 on February 25.
