Late Rally Falls Short For Lady Falcons In Loss To The Lincoln (Pa.)

RALEIGH, N.C. – Forward Terri Jacobs (Jr./McDonough, GA) scored 13 points and guard Porscha Walton (Jr./Chesterfield, VA) added 12 points as Saint Augustine's University nearly rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit but lost 64-56 to The Lincoln (Pa.) University in a CIAA women's basketball contest on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium Saturday, January 10, 2015.

The Lady Falcons are now 2-2 in the CIAA and 8-5 overall. The Lady Lions upped their record to 3-1 in the CIAA and 11-3 overall.

Jacobs also had seven rebounds and a team-high three steals in addition to making 11 of 12 free throw attempts. Guard LaKiya Rouse (Jr./Greensboro, NC) added 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for the Lady Falcons, who trailed 54-43 with 6:06 left but climbed back in the contest. Jacobs scored six points during a 13-2 run which tied the game at 56-56 with 3:29 remaining. Guard Regime McCombs (Jr./Greenville, SC) of the Lady Falcons knotted the score with a three-pointer. From that point, the Lady Lions scored the last eight points for the final score.

McCombs finished with eight points and guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson (Jr./Temple Hills, MD) added seven points for the Falcons. McCombs and Walton each had two steals.

The Lady Falcons scored 18 points off 25 Lady Lions' turnovers, but the Lady Lions scored 25 points off 21 Lady Falcons' turnovers. The Lady Lions shot 42 percent compared to 28 percent for the Lady Falcons.

"The loss today was on us," Lady Falcons' Head Coach Rachel Bullard said. "We didn't hit shots. We have to decide as a unit to turn it on and keep it on. I thought our effort was there, but it wasn't our day."

Lisa Saunders came off the bench to lead the Lady Lions with 14 points. Amani Clark added 13 points and Courtney Smith scored 10 points.

The Lady Falcons got off to a furious start, opening a 16-8 lead in the early moments. The Lady Lions then scored eight consecutive points to tie the game at 16-16. The visitors then surged ahead 27-22 behind nine straight points from Saunders.

A final push by the Lady Falcons gave them a 31-29 halftime lead. The Lady Falcons ended the half on a 9-2 run sparked by four points from Walton, who scored eight points in the first half. Saunders of the Lady Lions had 11 first-half points.

The Lady Falcons will play their third home game in five days when they host Virginia Union University on Monday, January 12. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
