Lady Falcons Drop CIAA Opener To Virginia State In Women's Basketball

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 18 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 75-48 CIAA women's basketball loss to Virginia State University at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015. The contest was the conference season opener for both teams.

Dorsey scored eight points to spark the Lady Falcons to an 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. After taking an early lead, the Lady Falcons were outscored 61-30 the rest of the contest. Utilizing their full-court pressure, the Trojans scored 29 points on 27 Lady Falcon turnovers.

Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) added nine points and Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) registered seven points for the Lady Falcons, who outrebounded the Trojans 37-33. Teeria Vaughan (Jr./Waterboro, SC) led the Lady Falcons with seven rebounds and Dorsey added six rebounds.

Wynterra Pittman paced the Trojans (4-5 overall, 1-0 CIAA) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Donae' Moguel added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Nandi Taylor scored 10 points for the Trojans, who outscored the Lady Falcons 15-7 in second chance points and 39-13 in bench points. The Trojans shot 44 percent and the Lady Falcons shot 41 percent.

The Lady Falcons (3-8 overall, 0-1 CIAA) will play their second home game in three days when they host Elizabeth City State University at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 17. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
