Lady Falcons Fall To Elizabeth City State 73-61 In Women's Basketball

RALEIGH, N.C. – Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) scored 17 points to lead three double-figure scorers for Saint Augustine's University in a 73-61 CIAA women's basketball loss to Elizabeth City State University at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015.

Harris added four rebounds and two steals in her season's debut. The Lady Falcons' guard missed the first 11 games due to injury.

Harris kept the Lady Falcons within reach with 12 first-half points on 4-for-6 three-point shooting. But the Lady Falcons could not overcome an 18-7 deficit at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Vikings stretched their lead to 38-24 at halftime, and led by double digits the entire second half with the margin climbing as high as 24 points. The Lady Falcons finished strong in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Vikings 21-14 including a 17-5 run in the last four minutes for the final score.

Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) added 12 points and six rebounds, and Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Lady Falcons (3-9 overall, 0-2 CIAA). Harris led a Lady Falcons' bench which outscored the Lady Vikings' reserves 25-2.

Jayln Brown had 24 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Lady Vikings (3-6 overall, 1-1 CIAA). Jasmine Dixon added 18 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks while Imani Heggins finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Vikings capitalized off 27 Lady Falcon turnovers for 28 points.

The Lady Falcons will play their third home game in five days when they host Chowan University at Emery Gymnasium in a CIAA contest on Saturday, Dec. 19. Game time is 2 p.m.
