Lady Falcons Visit Bluefield State In Women’s Basketball Rematch Thursday, Dec. 3

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will visit Bluefield State College in a non-conference rematch at Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, W.Va., on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Falcons will look to sweep the season series after edging the Lady Blues 75-74 in overtime in Raleigh, N.C. last week.

 

Last Meeting

Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) scored a career-high 22 points as the Lady Falcons rallied to nip Bluefield State College 75-74 in an overtime thriller at Emery Gymnasium on Nov. 24, 2015. The victory was the first for the Lady Falcons this season, and it came in exciting fashion. The Lady Falcons rallied from a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime, then prevailed when Lyndsay Hatfield's last-second contested layup banked off the glass and rolled around the rim several times before rimming out. Lee added five rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Teeria Vaughan (Jr./Waterboro, SC) posted a double-double off the bench with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Khadijah Payne (So./Gloucester, VA) added 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) added 10 points, and Ashanti Reid (Jr./Statesville, NC) recorded six points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists.

 

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top CIAA Scorers

Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) ranks third in the CIAA with an 18.3 scoring average. She also averages 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals in her first season with the Lady Falcons.

 

McPhaul Among CIAA Steals Leaders

Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) is sixth in the CIAA with 2.2 steals per game. She also ranks sixth in the conference with an 81 percent free throw shooting percentage.

 

Lee, Washington Having Breakout Seasons

Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is second on the team in points per game (10.0) and third in rebounds per game (5.1). She scored a career-high 22 points against Bluefield State on Nov. 24. Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (9.3), second in rebounds per game (6.6) and third in assists per game (2.0). The third-year center is tied for second on the squad in free throw shooting percentage (75).

 

McPhaul Named CIAA Rookie of the Week

Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) of the Lady Falcons was named CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24, 2015. She recorded five steals against Barton College on Nov. 17. McPhaul is a stellar scholar-athlete who also plays on the Saint Augustine's University volleyball and softball teams. She helped the softball team win the CIAA title and advance to its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament in the spring of 2015. In volleyball, McPhaul was third on the team in kills this season.

 

Dorsey Selected To CIAA-Mountain East All-Tourney Team

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) of the Lady Falcons was named to the CIAA-Mountain East All-Tournament team for her play on the basketball court on Nov. 14-15, 2015. Dorsey averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals in the CIAA-Mountain East Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

 

About The Opponent

Chaunte McDowell and Lyndsay Hatfield average 12.8 and 10.8 points, respectively, for the Lady Blues. Tanasia Blake averages 9.8 points per game. McDowell scored 21 points, and Blake and Hatfield scored 18 and 16, respectively, in the overtime loss to the Lady Falcons on Nov. 24. Todd Fong is the Lady Blues' interim head coach.
