Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) and Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) both scored 13 points and Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) added 12 points to lead Saint Augustine's University past Bluefield State College 61-45 in a women's basketball contest at Shott Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015.
With the victory, the Lady Falcons swept the season series against the Lady Blues. The rematch was a far cry from the first contest, however.
Last week, the Lady Falcons eked out a 75-74 overtime win at home in Raleigh, N.C. On Thursday, they pulled away in the fourth quarter after leading the entire game.
Holding a slim 35-34 lead in the third quarter, the Lady Falcons finish with a 9-2 run in the final three minutes to take a 44-36 lead into the fourth quarter. McPhaul and Teeria Vaughan (Jr./Waterboro, SC) then combined for 11 points as the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Blues 17-9 in the fourth quarter for the final margin. McPhaul scored seven points and Vaughan added four points in the final stanza.
For the Lady Falcons, Khadijah Payne (So./Gloucester, VA) grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and Washington added nine rebounds. Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) totaled eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, and McPhaul had five rebounds and three steals. Dorsey finished with five rebounds and two steals. Led by McPhaul, Dorsey and Lee, the Lady Falcons generated eight steals and forced 22 Lady Blues' turnovers which led to 18 points.
Tierra Richberg paced the Lady Blues (0-6 overall) with 15 points. Janae Williams and Lyndsay Hatfield each added eight points.
The Lady Falcons (2-6 overall) will get a much deserve rest during exam break before returning to the court on Saturday, Dec. 12. They will host Morris College in a non-conference game at Emery Gymnasium at 2 p.m.
