Box Score 2 LAURINBURG, N.C. - Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) drove in eight runs including a grand slam in two contests as Saint Augustine's University won 9-7 in the first game and lost 11-10 in the second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader against St. Andrews University at Knights Softball Field on Tuesday, March 17, 2015.
Parker also had two doubles and a triple in the doubleheader. She was 6-for-8 at the plate for a .750 average in two games combined.
Led by Parker, the Lady Falcons tallied 33 hits in two games including 19 hits in the second contest. Hannah Stutts (Sr./Statesville, NC) and Jasmine Rios (Fr./Greensboro, NC) tied Parker with six hits each while Daja White (Jr./Leland, NC) and Jo'Landa White (Sr./Leland, NC) each collected four hits. Daja White led the Lady Falcons with a .800 batting average on 4-for-5 hitting.
The Lady Falcons edged St. Andrews in the first game after scoring three runs for a 9-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning. St. Andrews scored one run and had a runner on third base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but pitcher Korey Hill (So./Virginia Beach, VA) forced the batter to hit a grounder for the final out.
The Lady Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Danyelle Noland (Fr./Nashville, NC) scored the first run on an infield error, Jo'Landa White scored Daja White on a single and Parker scored Jo'Landa White on a double. St. Andrews scored a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Stutts scored Daja White on a single to push the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning. St. Andrews homered to get within 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but Daja White doubled to score Rios and Noland for a 6-2 Lady Falcons' lead in the top of the sixth inning.
St. Andrews tied the score 6-6 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh inning which forced the extra inning.
The Lady Falcons regained the lead with three runs in the eighth inning. Hill scored Haili Pettifer (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) with a single and Daja White scored on a bases-loaded walk. Stutts scored Jo'Landa White on a single.
Hill earned the pitching victory after holding off St. Andrews in the bottom of the eighth inning. She pitched the final three innings in relief to even her pitching record at 2-2. The Lady Falcons amassed 14 hits in the win.
In the second game, the Lady Falcons surged to a big lead, but St. Andrews rallied late for the win.
St. Andrews led 1-0 in the first inning, but the Lady Falcons scored three runs in the top of the third inning for a 3-1 lead. Parker scored Tyanna Petersen (So./Brooklyn Park, MN) and Rios on a triple, and Stutts scored Parker on a single.
St. Andrews closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but the Lady Falcons erupted for six runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 9-2 lead. Noland scored Hill on a single and Parker scored herself, Noland, Rios and Petersen on a grand slam over the left field fence. Stutts scored Jo'Landa White on a single.
St. Andrews trimmed the margin to 9-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Knights scored one run in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run lead. The Lady Falcons tied the score 10-10 in the top of the seventh inning when Daja White scored Rios on a single, but St. Andrews scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lady Falcons will begin conference play in the CIAA Round-Up at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C., beginning Friday, March 20. Their opponents on the first day are The Lincoln University at 2 p.m. and Elizabeth City State University at 4:30 p.m. The Round-Up will continue through Sunday, March 22.
