WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will visit Winston-Salem State University in a key CIAA softball doubleheader at Twin City Park on Friday, April 24, 2015. Game times are 12 p.m. and approximately 2 p.m.
The doubleheader is a rematch of the 2014 CIAA championship game. The Lady Falcons finished as conference runner-ups after falling 5-4 to the Lady Rams last April.
Friday's games will have serious implications on the Southern Division title race. The Lady Falcons (16-10 overall) are atop the division with a 6-0 mark with four games left. The Lady Rams (17-19 overall) are one game behind the Lady Falcons at 5-1.
Fayetteville State University (14-10 overall) is third with a 4-2 record. The Lady Falcons end the regular season at Fayetteville State in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 26.
The Lady Falcons are sparked by a talented pitching staff led by CIAA pitcher of the week
Meranda Zanni (So./Phoenix, OR). She has a 6-1 pitching record with a 2.44 earned run average.
Korey Hill (So./Virginia Beach, VA) and
Hannah Stutts (Sr./Statesville, NC) rank fourth (51) and fifth (49), respectively, in the CIAA in strikeouts. For the Lady Rams, Mercedes Hargett is the CIAA leader in strikeouts (114).
Hargett is also tied for the league lead in home runs (8) while Katrina Bartlett ranks third in the CIAA in batting average (.441). For the Lady Falcons,
Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) is tied for third in the league in runs batted in (26). Stutts leads the Lady Falcons with a .429 batting average and Parker bats .413.
