FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University can clinch its first Southern Division title in recent memory in a CIAA softball doubleheader against Fayetteville State University on Sanders Field at Seabrook Park Monday, April 27, 2015. Game times are 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m.
The Lady Falcons lead the division at 7-1 with the two games left against Fayetteville State in the regular season. Winston-Salem State University is second at 8-2 and Fayetteville State University is third at 5-3 in the division.
A sweep of the Lady Broncos (15-11 overall) would give the Lady Falcons (17-11 overall) the division title outright. A split would give the Lady Falcons a share of the CIAA crown with the Lady Rams.
The Lady Falcons would gain the Southern Division No. 1 seed in the CIAA Tournament if they tied the Lady Rams. Both teams split the regular season meeting in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Friday, April 24, but the Lady Falcons won by a larger margin.
The Lady Falcons will lean on their stout pitching staff against the Lady Broncos. Meranda Zanni (So./Phoenix, OR) leads the CIAA in earned run average (1.75) and Hannah Stutts (Sr./Statesville, NC) ranks fourth (2.99). Korey Hill (So./Virginia Beach, VA) is fifth in the conference in strikeouts (51). Alex Wickham of Fayetteville State ranks second in the CIAA in batting average (.459).
