RALEIGH, N.C. – Southern Division Co-Champion Saint Augustine's University enters the CIAA Softball Championship as the division's top seed when the double-elimination tournament begins Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Walnut Creek Softball Complex at 8:30 a.m. Admission is free.
The Lady Falcons (18-12 overall) will open against Bowie State University, the Northern Division's No. 4 seed, in a first-round game on Field 4. They will look to avenge an 11-10 regular-season loss to the Lady Bulldogs (13-17 overall) in March. That contest was played during the CIAA Round-Up at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
The Saint Augustine's University-Bowie State winner will play either Northern Division No. 2 seed Virginia State University or Southern Division No. 3 seed Fayetteville State University Thursday on Field 3 at 1:30 p.m. The losers of both games will meet in the elimination bracket Thursday on Field 5 at 11 a.m.
The tournament will continue through Saturday, May 2, when a champion will be crowned. The tournament bracket and live stats are on TheCIAA.com.
The Lady Falcons are the Southern Division co-champions with Winston-Salem State University, but earned the No. 1 seed by virtue of the CIAA tiebreaking procedure. Both teams split during the regular season last week, but the Lady Falcons won by a larger margin. The Lady Falcons gained a piece of the division crown by defeating Fayetteville State 4-2 on Monday, April 27.
Walnut Creek Softball Complex is located on 1201 Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh, N.C. The zip code is 27610.
