BROWNSVILLE, Pa. – CIAA Champion Saint Augustine's University will face PSAC Champion California (Pa.) University in an NCAA Division II Atlantic 1 Regional First-Round Softball Game at Lilley Field on Friday, May 8, 2015, at 1 p.m. Follow the contest via live stats on this link - http://www.sidearmstats.com/cup/softball/. This will be the first-ever NCAA Tournament softball contest for the No. 8 seed Lady Falcons (22-13 overall), who are coming off their first CIAA softball crown since 1991. They are sparked by several players led by CIAA Tournament MVP and All-CIAA player Meranda Zanni (So./Phoenix, OR), who leads the CIAA in earned run average (1.70) and bats .394 with 16 RBIs. Zanni was named to the All-CIAA First Team along with Hannah Stutts (Sr./Statesville, NC), who ranks third in the CIAA in earned run average (2.97) and leads the Lady Falcons in batting average (.408). CIAA Rookie of the Year Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) ranks fourth in the CIAA in runs batted in (35) and All-CIAA Second-Team player Daja White (Jr./Leland, NC) bats .400. The trio of Zanni, Stutts and Parker were named to the All-CIAA Tournament team last Sunday along with Jasmine Rios (Fr./Greensboro, NC), who smacked three home runs in the CIAA Tournament. The top seed Vulcans (35-10 overall) are led by Lindsay Reicoff, who is the team leader in batting average (.411), RBIs (51) and home runs (18). Alex Sagl has a 21-4 pitching record with a 1.12 earned run average and 222 strikeouts.
The Vulcans are the host team in the Atlantic 1 Regional. No. 4 seed the University of Charleston (W.Va.) and No. 5 seed Gannon University will play in the second game Friday at 3:30 p.m.
The SAU-California (Pa.) winner will face the Charleston (WVa.)-Gannon winner in the double-elimination tournament on Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m. The losers of both games will play at 1 p.m. Saturday.
