Lady Falcons Visit Nationally-Ranked Virginia Union Monday, Jan. 11 In Women's Basketball At 5:30 p.m.

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will visit Virginia Union University at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va., on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.

Records
The Lady Falcons are 3-11 overall and 0-4 in the CIAA. The Lady Panthers are 10-1 overall and 2-1 in the CIAA.

Ticket Prices
Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for senior citizens, children ages 8 and over and visiting college students with ID.


Story Line
This is the third of a three-game road trip in five days against CIAA Northern Division teams for the Lady Falcons. Virginia Union is ranked 20th nationally in the USA Today Coaches Division II Poll.


Last Meeting
The Lady Falcons lost 74-71 to Virginia Union in the first round of the CIAA Tournament at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C., on Feb. 24, 2015. Regime McCombs led the Lady Falcons with 20 points including 6 of 9 three-point attempts. Guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson added 17 points and forward Terri Jacobs scored 12 points.

Last Meeting at Barco-Stevens Hall
Jeanne-Marie Wilson scored 14 points and Shelby Stokes added 10 points for the Lady Falcons in a 75-68 non-conference loss to Virginia Union University on Nov. 24, 2014.


Last Game
Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons in a 72-46 CIAA loss to Lincoln (Pa.) University at Rivero Hall on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016.


About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach
Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.


Dorsey Among Top CIAA Scorers
Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) ranks fifth in the CIAA with a 16.0 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in points per game, rebounds per game (6.9) and assists per game (1.9). Dorsey is also tied for the team lead in steals per game (1.8).


Harris Gives Lady Falcons Scoring Boost
Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) is bouncing back nicely after missing the first 11 games due to injury. She is averaging 11.7 points per game which is second-best on the Lady Falcons' squad. The long-range sharpshooter is already tied for second on the team with nine three-pointers.


Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons
Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (9.1) and second in rebounds per game (5.5). Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.9). She scored a career-high 22 points against Bluefield State on Nov. 24.


McPhaul Named CIAA Rookie of the Week
Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) of the Lady Falcons was named CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24, 2015. She recorded five steals against Barton College on Nov. 17. McPhaul is a stellar scholar-athlete who also plays on the Saint Augustine's University volleyball and softball teams. She helped the softball team win the CIAA title and advance to its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament in the spring of 2015. In volleyball, McPhaul was third on the team in kills this season.


Dorsey Selected To CIAA-Mountain East All-Tourney Team
Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) of the Lady Falcons was named to the CIAA-Mountain East All-Tournament team for her play on the basketball court on Nov. 14-15, 2015. Dorsey averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals in the CIAA-Mountain East Classic in Charlotte, N.C.


About The Opponent
Kiana Johnson of Virginia Union leads the CIAA in points per game (27.2), assists per game (8.6), steals per game (4.2), three-point field goal percentage (44.9) and minutes per game (38.1). Johnson ranks first nationally in Division II in points per game in addition to ranking second in steals per game, second in assists per game and fourth in minutes played per game. Lady Walker leads the CIAA in rebounds per game (12.0). Walker also ranks third in points per game (17.5) and fourth in field goal percentage (53.5). Taylor White ranks fifth in the CIAA in rebounds per game (8.7) and field goal percentage (52.8). Rahni Bell ranks second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (44.1). The Lady Panthers rank first in the CIAA in nine categories including points per game (88.7) and field goal percentage (47.0). They also rank third nationally in Division II in points per game.
