Women's Basketball Team Falls To Chowan

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 17 points and added four rebounds and three steals for Saint Augustine's University in an 86-58 CIAA women's basketball defeat to Chowan University at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016.

Dorsey led a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Falcons. Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) added 10 points while Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) and Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) both scored nine points.

The Lady Falcons shared the scoring load in the first half to keep pace with the Hawks. Dorsey had six points, and the trio of LaKiya Rouse (Sr./Greensboro, NC), Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) and Washington each contributed four points as the Lady Falcons trailed 34-23 at the half.

But the Hawks (11-5 overall, 5-1 CIAA) outscored the Lady Falcons 26-9 in the third quarter to break the contest open. The Lady Falcons entered the fourth quarter down 60-32. The Lady Falcons never quit, however, as they scored 26 points in the final quarter which equaled the Hawks' point total in the last 10 minutes.

Playing an up-tempo style, the Lady Falcons outscored the Hawks in fast break points 12-8. The Hawks countered by using their depth and rebounding (55-32) to take control of the contest. They scored more bench points (42-16), second chance points (24-8) and points in the paint (54-36). The Hawks shot 44.4 percent and the Lady Falcons shot 36.8 percent.

Alisha Mobley paced the Hawks with 19 points and Jordan Payne and Dhyamond Crensahw each scored 11 points. Payne added 14 rebounds.

The Lady Falcons (3-13 overall, 0-6 CIAA) are back in action Saturday, Jan. 16, when they visit Winston-Salem State University at the Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Game time is 2 p.m.
