Women's Basketball Team Visits Winston-Salem State In CIAA Southern Division Opener Saturday, Jan. 16

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will visit Winston-Salem State University at the Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at 2 p.m.

The Lady Falcons are 3-13 overall and 0-6 in the CIAA. The Lady Rams are 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA.

This is the Southern Division opener for the Lady Falcons, who are looking for their first CIAA victory.

Porscha Walton led the Lady Falcons with 11 points in a 59-56 loss to the Lady Rams at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Feb. 9, 2015.

Porscha Walton scored 18 points and Terri Jacobs finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Falcons in a 62-59 victory over the Lady Rams on Jan. 17, 2015.

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top CIAA Scorers

Guard Sycoya Dorsey ranks fourth in the CIAA with a 16.0 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (6.8), assists per game (2.1) and steals per game (1.9).

 

Harris Gives Lady Falcons Scoring Boost

Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) is bouncing back nicely after missing the first 11 games due to injury. She is averaging 11.6 points per game which is second-best on the Lady Falcons' squad. The long-range sharpshooter is second on the team with 13 three-pointers.

 

Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons

Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (9.0) and second in rebounds per game (5.9). Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.7). She scored a career-high 22 points against Bluefield State on Nov. 24.

 

Lady Falcons Get To Free Throw Line

The Lady Falcons rank fifth in the CIAA in free throw attempts per game (23.6).

McPhaul Named CIAA Rookie of the Week

Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) of the Lady Falcons was named CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24, 2015. She recorded five steals against Barton College on Nov. 17. McPhaul is a stellar scholar-athlete who also plays on the Saint Augustine's University volleyball and softball teams. She helped the softball team win the CIAA title and advance to its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament in the spring of 2015. In volleyball, McPhaul was third on the team in kills this season.

 

Dorsey Selected To CIAA-Mountain East All-Tourney Team

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) of the Lady Falcons was named to the CIAA-Mountain East All-Tournament team for her play on the basketball court on Nov. 14-15, 2015. Dorsey averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals in the CIAA-Mountain East Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

 

About The Opponent

Kandace Tate sparks the Lady Rams in points per game (11.5) and rebounds per game (6.6). She is also tied for the team lead in blocks per game (1.0) and leads the CIAA in free throw percentage (79.2). Awa Kaimstrom leads the Lady Rams in assists (3.4). A.G. Hall is in his fourth season as head coach of the Lady Rams, who lead the conference in field goal percentage defense (34.4) and blocks per game (4.7).
