Women's Basketball Team Visits Johnson C. Smith Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 5:30 p.m.

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will visit Johnson C. Smith University at Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Falcons are 3-14 overall, 0-7 in the CIAA and 0-1 in the Southern Division. The Golden Bulls are 11-7 overall, 4-3 in the CIAA and 0-1 in the Southern Division.

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top CIAA Scorers

Guard Sycoya Dorsey ranks fifth in the CIAA with a 15.8 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (6.6), assists per game (1.9) and steals per game (1.9).

 

Dorsey Leads NCAA In Free Throw Attempts

Sycoya Dorsey is the NCAA Division II leader in free throw attempts. The junior guard has shot 150 free throws, which is the highest in the nation among D-II schools. As a unit, the Lady Falcons rank 15th nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (397). Johnson C. Smith, the Lady Falcons' opponent on Wednesday, rank fifth in Division II in free throw attempts (442).

 

Harris Gives Lady Falcons Scoring Boost

Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) is bouncing back nicely after missing the first 11 games due to injury. She is averaging 11.3 points per game which is second-best on the Lady Falcons' squad. The long-range sharpshooter is second on the team with 16 three-pointers.

 

Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons

Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (8.6) and second in rebounds per game (5.8). Washington leads the Lady Falcons in three-point field goals (24). Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.2) and third in steals (1.2). She is third on the team in three-point field goals (11).
