Lady Falcons Battle Hard In Women's Basketball Loss To Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Guard Shanika Harris (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 16 points as Saint Augustine's University stayed close with Johnson C. Smith University before falling 64-48 in a CIAA women's basketball contest at Brayboy Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016.

The Lady Falcons opened a seven-point lead in the first quarter, and kept pace with Johnson C. Smith until the fourth quarter when the Golden Bulls pulled away. Despite the loss, the Lady Falcons played one of their best games of the season considering leading scorer Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) was out due to illness.

TURNING POINT
The Lady Falcons were in striking distance entering the fourth quarter. They trailed 40-35 but were outscored 24-13 in the final stanza. A full-court press by the Golden Bulls contributed to the final outcome.

LADY FALCONS' TOP PLAYERS
Shanika Harris: The Lady Falcons' guard added eight rebounds and four assists, both team highs. She also tied for the team lead with two steals.

Ke-Ashe Lee (Roanoke, VA): The sophomore guard scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.

Ashanti Reid (Statesville, NC): The junior guard scored seven points and tied Harris with two steals.

LaKiya Rouse (Greensboro, NC): The senior guard finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
