Lady Falcons Host Fayetteville State In Women's Basketball Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will host Fayetteville State University on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at 2 p.m.

 

Records

The Lady Falcons are 3-16 overall, 0-9 in the CIAA and 0-3 in the Southern Division. The Lady Broncos are 11-10 overall, 5-5 in the CIAA and 2-2 in the Southern Division.

Ticket Prices

Ticket prices are $13 for general admission and $8.50 for faculty, staff, military personal with identification (ID), visiting college students with ID and children ages 6 to 12. The doubleheader is free for Saint Augustine's University students with ID and children ages 5 and under.

 

Story Line

The Lady Falcons return home to Emery Gymnasium after playing six of their last seven games, including the last three, on the road. The contest against Fayetteville State is the first four straight home games.

 

Last Meeting

Terri Jacobs amassed 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Falcons past Fayetteville State 79-72 in a CIAA contest on Senior Day at Emery Gymnasium Feb. 21, 2015. Jacobs also had three of the Lady Falcons' 12 steals.

Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) and forward Ashanti Reid (Jr./Statesville, NC) scored 13 points apiece for the Lady Falcons in a 104-58 CIAA loss to Livingstone College at New Trent Gymnasium in Salisbury, N.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016. Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) added 11 points for the Lady Falcons.

 

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top CIAA Scorers

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) is tied for fifth in the CIAA with a 15.1 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (6.5), assists per game (1.8) and steals per game (1.8).

 

Dorsey Among NCAA Leaders In Free Throw Attempts

Sycoya Dorsey ranks third among NCAA Division II players in free throw attempts. The junior guard has shot 154 free throws. As a unit, the Lady Falcons rank 20th nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (446).

 

Harris Gives Lady Falcons Scoring Boost

Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) is bouncing back nicely after missing the first 11 games due to injury. She is averaging 12.1 points per game which is second-best on the Lady Falcons' squad. The long-range sharpshooter is second on the team with 21 three-pointers.

 

Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons

Center Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (8.5) and second in rebounds per game (5.5). Washington leads the Lady Falcons in three-point field goals (28). Guard Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.2) and third in steals (1.2). She is third on the team in three-point field goals (15).

 

About The Opponent

Forward Vernessa Hinnant averages 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds for Fayetteville State. Center Bria Robinson averages 11.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
