Lady Falcons Visit Bowie State In Women’s Basketball Thursday (Jan. 7) at 5:30 p.m.

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will visit Bowie State University at A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Md., on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.

 

Records

The Lady Falcons are 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the CIAA. The Lady Bulldogs are 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA.

Ticket Prices

Ticket prices are $15 for general admission and $10 for visiting college students and senior citizens. Children ages 6 and under are admitted free.

This is the first of five consecutive away games for the Lady Falcons.

Guard Porscha Walton led five double-figure scorers with 19 points to lift the Lady Falcons to an 84-74 win over Bowie State in the first game on the newly renamed Harvey D. Heartley Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium on Jan. 8, 2015.

 

Last Meeting at A.C. Jordan Arena

Guard LaKiya Rouse scored 15 points including four key free throws in the final two minutes as the Lady Falcons held off Bowie State 73-69 for their sixth straight win on Jan. 9, 2014.

 

Last Game

Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) scored 17 points to lead three double-figure scorers for the Lady Falcons in a 73-61 loss to Elizabeth City State University at Emery Gymnasium on Dec. 17, 2015.

 

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top CIAA Scorers

Guard Sycoya Dorsey ranks fifth in the CIAA with a 16.7 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (6.7) and assists per game (1.9). The talented newcomer is second nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (108). As a team, the Lady Falcons rank 27th in Division II in free throw attempts (286).

 

McPhaul Among CIAA Free Throw Leaders

Guard Akera McPhaul is second in the CIAA in free throw percentage (80.6).

 

Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons

Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (9.5) and second in rebounds per game (6.2). Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.9) and third in steals per game (1.2). She scored a career-high 22 points against Bluefield State on Nov. 24.

 

McPhaul Named CIAA Rookie of the Week

Akera McPhaul (Fr./Greensboro, NC) was named CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24, 2015. She recorded five steals against Barton College on Nov. 17. McPhaul is a stellar scholar-athlete who also plays on the Saint Augustine's University volleyball and softball teams. She helped the softball team win the CIAA title and advance to its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament in the spring of 2015. In volleyball, McPhaul was third on the team in kills this season.

 

Dorsey Selected To CIAA-Mountain East All-Tourney Team

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) of the Lady Falcons was named to the CIAA-Mountain East All-Tournament team for her play on the basketball court on Nov. 14-15, 2015. Dorsey averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals in the CIAA-Mountain East Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

 

About The Opponent

Kiara Colston of Bowie State ranks third in the CIAA with a 17.8 scoring average. Colston also leads the CIAA in three-point field goal percentage (46.5). Ashley Jennings is third in the conference in rebounds per game (9.9) and Kyah Proctor ranks eighth in assists per game (3.3). Shadae Swan is the interim head coach of the Lady Bulldogs, who leads the CIAA in fewest turnovers per game (17.5) and three-point field goal percentage defense (24.6). The Lady Bulldogs rank 10th in Division II in three-point field goal defense.
