Lady Falcons Fall To Shaw In Women's Basketball

RALEIGH, N.C. – Khadijah Payne (Soph./Gloucester, VA) led Saint Augustine's University with 12 points in a 92-55 CIAA women's basketball loss to Shaw University at a packed Emery Gymnasium on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.

Payne was one of the bright spots for the Lady Falcons. The 6-foot-0 sophomore center was 3-for-5 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. She also added one block and one steal.

OTHER TOP LADY FALCONS' PLAYERS

Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA): The senior guard scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. She made two three-pointers and added one steal and a block.

Shelby Stokes (Jr./Cleveland, OH): Playing for the first time since Dec. 17, 2015, because of injury, Stokes scored 10 points and added seven rebounds. She also contributed two assists, one block and one steal.

Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA): The junior center finished with eight points including two three-pointers.

Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA): The speedy guard totaled eight points and nine rebounds.

TURNING POINT
The Lady Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back in defeating the Lady Falcons. They finished the contest by outscoring the Lady Falcons 24-7 in the fourth quarter.

RECORDS
Saint Augustine's University 3-18 overall, 0-11 CIAA, 0-5 Southern Division; Shaw 17-5 overall, 9-1 CIAA, 5-0 Southern Division.

TOP SHAW PLAYERS
Tabatha Anderson scored 19 points to lead five double-figure scorers for the Lady Bears. Laquisha Taylor added 15 points and nine rebounds.

NEXT GAME
The Lady Falcons host Winston-Salem State University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. This will be the third straight home game for the Lady Falcons.
