Dorsey Posts Double-Double For Lady Falcons In Women's Basketball Loss To Shaw

RALEIGH, N.C. – Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Sr./Richmond, VA) finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Saint Augustine's University in a 96-58 CIAA women's basketball loss to Shaw University at Spaulding Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016.

Dorsey recorded her second double-double in three games. Ranked second nationally in Division II in free throw attempts, the junior guard was 10-for-16 from the charity stripe.

Center Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) added 13 points and guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) scored 10 points for the Lady Falcons, who opened the contest with a 7-0 lead. Washington scored 11 points in the first half, including three consecutive three-pointers, and Harris added eight points as the Lady Falcons trailed 48-32 at halftime. Washington was 4-for-5 from the floor, including 3-for-4 beyond the three-point stripe, and Harris was 3-for-4 from the floor, including 2-for-3 behind the arc, in the first half for the Falcons, who shot 41.4 percent in the first 20 minutes.

The Lady Falcons cooled off considerable in the second half, shooting 22.6 percent. Overall, the Lady Falcons shot 31.7 percent from the floor.

Led by Dorsey, the Lady Falcons held the edge on the boards, outrebounding the Lady Bears 44-38. The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Bears 13-11 in second chance points.

Turnovers doomed the Lady Falcons, however, as they turned the ball over 34 times which led to a 40-5 advantage in turnover points for the Southern Division-leading Lady Bears (21-5 overall, 8-0 Southern Division).

Eboni Ross led the Lady Bears with 16 points. Michelle Wright added 14 points for the Lady Bears, who shot 53.5 percent.

The Lady Falcons (3-21 overall, 0-8 Southern Division) play their final home game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Emery Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. The foursome of Harris, guard LaKiya Rouse (Sr./Greensboro, NC), guard Shelby Stokes (Sr./Cleveland, OH) and guard Maya Presson (Sr./Pennsauken, NJ) will be recognized on Senior Night.
