Lady Falcons Host Winston-Salem State In CIAA Women’s Basketball Contest Saturday, Feb. 6 (Game Notes)

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will host Winston-Salem State University on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at 2 p.m.

 

Records

The Lady Falcons are 3-18 overall, 0-11 in the CIAA and 0-5 in the Southern Division. The Rams are 9-12 overall, 4-7 in the CIAA and 2-3 in the Southern Division.

Ticket Prices

Ticket prices are $13 for general admission and $8.50 for faculty, staff, military personal with identification (ID), visiting college students with ID and children ages 6 to 12. The doubleheader is free for Saint Augustine's University students with ID and children ages 5 and under.

The Lady Falcons will face Winston-Salem State in a season series rematch.

 

Last Meeting

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 12 points and guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond,  VA) added 10 points for the Lady Falcons in a 74-41 CIAA loss to Winston-Salem State at the Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Jan. 16, 2016. 

 

Last Meeting at Emery Gymnasium

The Lady Falcons finished with a flurry, but it was the early moments of the contest which tripped the home team in a 59-56 CIAA loss to Winston-Salem State on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium on Feb.  9, 2015. After trailing much of the game, the Lady Falcons nearly pulled off the win in the closing minutes. They got within 53-52 with 2:10 remaining, but were outscored 6-4 in the closing minutes.

 

Last Game

Khadijah Payne (Soph./Gloucester, VA) led the Lady Falcons with 12 points in a 92-55 CIAA loss to Shaw University at a packed Emery Gymnasium on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.

 

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top 10 CIAA Scorers

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) is seventh in the CIAA with a 14.9 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (6.6), assists per game (1.8) and steals per game (1.9).

 

Dorsey Among NCAA Leaders In Free Throw Attempts

Sycoya Dorsey ranks second among NCAA Division II players in free throw attempts. The junior guard has shot 176 free throws. As a unit, the Lady Falcons rank 21st nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (488).

 

Harris Gives Lady Falcons Scoring Boost

Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) is bouncing back nicely after missing the first 11 games due to injury. She is averaging 11.5 points per game which is second-best on the Lady Falcons' squad. The long-range sharpshooter is second on the team with 25 three-pointers.

 

Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons

Center Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is third on the team in points per game (8.4) and second in rebounds per game (5.3). Washington ranks seventh in the CIAA in three-point field goals (31). Guard Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.3) and third in three-point field goals (17).

 

About The Opponent

Center Kandace Tate and guard Tiana Edwards average 9.4 points and 9.1 points, respectively, for the Rams. Forward Briana Arnold averages six rebounds per game and Awa Kalmstrom hands out 3.1 assists per game. A.G. Hall is in his fourth season as head coach of the Rams, who rank 16th nationally in Division II in field goal percentage defense (35.0).
