Lady Falcons Host Johnson C. Smith In Women’s Basketball Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (Game Notes)

The Saint Augustine's University women's basketball team will host Johnson C. Smith University on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.

 

Records

The Lady Falcons are 3-19 overall, 0-12 in the CIAA and 0-6 in the Southern Division. The Golden Bulls are 13-10 overall, 6-6 in the CIAA and 2-4 in the Southern Division.

Ticket Prices

Ticket prices are $13 for general admission and $8.50 for faculty, staff, military personal with identification (ID), visiting college students with ID and children ages 6 to 12. The doubleheader is free for Saint Augustine's University students with ID and children ages 5 and under.

Guard Shanika Harris (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 16 points as the Lady Falcons stayed close with Johnson C. Smith before falling 64-48 in a CIAA contest at Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, N.C., on Jan. 20, 2016. 

 

Last Meeting at Emery Gymnasium

Forward Terri Jacobs finished with 22 points and 21 rebounds and Regime McCombs added 20 points including two clutch baskets down the stretch as the Lady Falcons defeated Johnson C. Smith 84-82 in a CIAA contest on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium on Jan. 21, 2015.

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) paced the Lady Falcons with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-42 CIAA loss to Winston-Salem State University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.

 

About The Lady Falcons' Interim Head Coach

Jarita Crump is in her first season as the Lady Falcons' interim head women's basketball coach. She was the Lady Falcons' assistant coach the past three seasons in addition to the 2010-2011 season. The Lady Falcons won four of their five consecutive CIAA Highest Grade Point Average Awards in women's basketball with Crump on staff. During the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Falcons earned a 19-11 overall mark and reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals with Crump as assistant coach.

 

Dorsey Among Top 10 CIAA Scorers

Guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA) is sixth in the CIAA with a 15.0 scoring average. She leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (6.9), assists per game (1.8) and steals per game (2.0).

 

Dorsey Among NCAA Leaders In Free Throw Attempts

Sycoya Dorsey ranks fourth among NCAA Division II players in free throw attempts. The junior guard has shot 180 free throws, which leads the CIAA. As a unit, the Lady Falcons rank 26th nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (504).

 

Harris Gives Lady Falcons Scoring Boost

Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) is bouncing back nicely after missing the first 11 games due to injury. She is averaging 11.2 points per game which is second-best on the Lady Falcons' squad. The long-range sharpshooter is second on the team and tied for 10th in the CIAA with 26 three-pointers.

 

Washington, Lee Having Breakout Seasons

Center Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is fourth on the team in points per game (8.0) and third in rebounds per game (5.2). Washington ranks seventh in the CIAA in three-point field goals (31). Guard Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) is third on the team in points per game (8.3) and third in three-point field goals (17).

 

About The Opponent

Center Ashley Porter leads the Golden Bulls with a 11.0 scoring average and a 7.4 rebounding average. Guard Krista White averages 3.2 assists for the Golden Bulls, who rank third nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (583), seventh in steals (271) and seventh in turnovers forced (22.87 per game).  Stephen Joyner, Jr. is in his fourth season as head coach.
