Lady Falcons Look To Stretch Softball Win Streak Against Shaw Saturday (April 16)

RALEIGH, N.C. – Defending league champion Saint Augustine's University visits crosstown rival Shaw University in a CIAA softball doubleheader at Worthdale Park on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The doubleheader is the beginning of a critical six-game conference stretch for the Lady Falcons, who are currently fifth at 2-2 in the CIAA Southern Division standings. Eight teams – the top four from the Northern Division and Southern Division – advance to the CIAA Tournament, which will be held April 28-30 in Raleigh, N.C.

The Lady Falcons will attempt to extend their win streak against Shaw. They have won the last six meetings and seven of the past eight contests.

The Lady Falcons (5-19 overall) are led offensively by Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia), who ranks second in the CIAA in batting average (.492). Both Akera McPhaul (So./Greensboro, NC) and Jasmine Rios (So./Greensboro, NC) are among six CIAA batters tied for fifth in home runs (3).

Shaw (9-24 overall) counters with Zahrea Lewis and Brittany Kline on offense. Lewis leads the CIAA in runs batted in (33) and Kline is fifth (24). Kline is the conference leader in stolen bases (18) and Chakiryn Jackson is second (14) for the Lady Bears, who are tied for second in the division at 3-1.
