Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia) fired a second consecutive no-hitter as Saint Augustine's University upended Shaw University 8-0 in both games of a CIAA softball doubleheader at Worthdale Park on Saturday, April 16, 2016. The Lady Falcons have won eight in a row and nine of the last 10 contests against their crosstown rival under Head Coach Nikki Bynum Bumpass.
The victories moved the Lady Falcons into a second-place tie in the Southern Division at 4-2 with four conference games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams – four in the Northern Division and Southern Division – qualify for the CIAA Softball Championship Tournament, which will be held April 28-30 at Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C.
The Lady Falcons, who began the day fifth in the division, took charge from the outset. Well rested after a six-day break, they were sharp against the Lady Bears.
In the first game, Parker stymied the Lady Bears for the pitching victory. She kept their bats quiet by striking out six and walking two in five innings. The contest was stopped in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Parker also hurled a no-hitter in a 17-0 win over Livingstone College on April 10. She has recorded 26 strikeouts in her last three starts.
Parker also contributed at the plate against Shaw, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the first game. She ranks second in the CIAA in batting average (.485).

The Lady Falcons finished the scoring with two runs in the fifth. Petersen and Akera McPhaul (So./Greensboro, NC) both scored on an infield error. Fran Perry was the losing pitcher for the Lady Bears.
In the second game, Hill nearly threw a no-hitter in the victory. She tossed a two-hitter in six innings, striking out six and walking four for the pitching win.
Hill had more than enough offensive support. Petersen was 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored and Duckworth was 3-for-3 with a double and one run scored for the Lady Falcons, who tallied eight hits.
The Lady Falcons scored their first run in the second inning when Petersen scored Hill on an RBI single. They added two runs in the third inning when Parker and Rios scored on a passed ball.
The score was 6-0 in the fourth inning after the Lady Falcons scored three runs. Duckworth scored on an error and Pettifer scored McPhaul on an RBI groundout. Zanni scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Falcons (7-19 overall) added a run in the fifth and sixth innings. McPhaul scored Petersen on an RBI single in the fifth and Hill scored Pettifer on an RBI groundout in the sixth. The contest was stopped in the sixth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Chakiryn Jackson recorded the only two hits for the Lady Bears (3-3 Southern Division, 9-26 overall) in the doubleheader. She was 2-for-3 in the second game. Chyna Gross was the losing pitcher.
The Lady Falcons will step out the conference to visit St. Andrews University for a doubleheader in Laurinburg, N.C., on Wednesday, April 20. The first game starts at 1 p.m. Both teams will also complete a contest which was stopped in the second inning Feb. 3 due to rain.
