Box Score 2 LAURINBURG, N.C. – Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia) and Meranda Zanni (Jr./Phoenix, OR) of Saint Augustine's University both had three RBIs in a softball doubleheader split against St. Andrews University at Knights Softball Field on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. The Lady Falcons won the first game 10-7 and lost the second game 11-8.
Parker powered the Lady Falcons past St. Andrews in the first game, which was the completion of a suspended contest in Raleigh, N.C., on Feb. 3. She was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Tyanna Petersen (Jr./Brooklyn Park, MN) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and one run scored, and Zanni was 3-for-3 with three runs scored for the Lady Falcons, who finished with 14 hits.
The contest resumed with the Lady Falcons trailing 4-3 in the second inning. St. Andrews added a run in the third inning, but the Lady Falcons tied the score 5-5 with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Petersen scored Danyelle Duckworth (Fr./Orange Park, FL) and Parker on a two-run double.
The Lady Falcons led 6-5 in the fourth inning when Akera McPhaul (So./Greensboro, NC) tripled home Zanni. The triple was the 5th this season for McPhaul.
The Lady Falcons added two runs in the fifth for an 8-5 lead. Petersen scored on an infield error and Mikalya Pettyjohn (So./Jamestown, NC) scored on an RBI double by Haili Pettifer (So./Langley, British Columbia).
St. Andrews scored one run in the top sixth but the Lady Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 10-6 lead. Parker scored Zanni on an RBI double and Korey Hill (Jr./Virginia Beach, VA) scored Parker on an RBI single. St. Andrews added one run in the seventh for the final score.
Hill pitched the final five innings to get the win for the Lady Falcons as four pitchers combined for a two-hitter. Nancy Amos took the pitching loss for St. Andrews.
In the second game, Zanni was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Duckworth was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored for the Lady Falcons, who totaled 12 hits. Hill was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored and Jasmine Rios (So./Greensboro, NC) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Parker was 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored and Pettyjohn was 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The Lady Falcons led 3-1 in the second inning. Zanni scored Hill and Pettyjohn on a two-run single and Duckworth scored on an outfield error.
St. Andrews scored five runs in the bottom second for a 6-3 lead, but the Lady Falcons scored three runs in the top third to tie the score. Parker scored on a catcher's error and Rios scored on Pettyjohn's RBI single. Pettyjohn scored on an infield error.
St. Andrews (15-30 overall) took control in the bottom third, scoring five runs for an 11-6 lead. The Lady Falcons (8-20 overall) scored one run each in the sixth and seventh innings for the final margin. Duckworth scored on Zanni's sacrifice fly in the sixth and Rios scored on Hill's single in the seventh.
Parker took the pitching loss for the Lady Falcons. Kori Ballard was the winning pitcher and also totaled three RBIs including a two-run homer for St. Andrews.
The Lady Falcons finish the regular season this weekend with important CIAA home doubleheaders against Winston-Salem State University and Fayetteville State University at Worthdale Park in Raleigh, N.C. The Winston-Salem State doubleheader is Saturday, April 23, and the Fayetteville State doubleheader is Sunday, April 24. The starting times are 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. both days.
