Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University opened CIAA Southern Division play with 8-0 and 6-5 softball losses to Johnson C. Smith University at Biddleville Park on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia) led the Lady Falcons in both games. She was 1-for-2 at the plate with a double in the first game and 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored in the second game.
The Lady Falcons fell behind early in the first game. The Golden Bulls scored seven runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning for an 8-0 lead which held throughout the contest.
Parker and Korey Hill (Jr./Virginia Beach, VA) provided the only hits for the Lady Falcons in the first game. Hill was 1-for-1 at the plate. Monique Jefferson and Imani Scott each had two RBIs for the Golden Bulls.
The Lady Falcons took charge early in the second game. They scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.
Parker's two-run homer over the center field fence also scored Akera McPhaul (So./Greensboro, NC) in the first inning. McPhaul and Danyelle Duckworth (Fr./Orange Park, FL) both scored on an infield throwing error in the second inning.
The Lady Falcons added a run in the sixth inning for a 5-0 lead. McPhaul scored on a single by Jasmine Rios (So./Greensboro, NC).
The Golden Bulls rallied for the win in the final two innings. They scored three runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh.
In addition to Parker's hitting, Haili Pettifer (So./Langley, British Columbia) was 3-for-4 and Hill was 2-for-3. McPhaul scored three runs for the Lady Falcons.
Parker was the losing pitcher despite recording 11 strikeouts and scattering seven hits in six and two-third innings. Tia Mahoney and Morgan Hasty each finished with two RBIs apiece for the Golden Bulls (4-0 CIAA Southern Division, 8-10 overall).
The Lady Falcons (0-2 CIAA Southern Division, 3-19 overall) are back in action Sunday, April 10, when they visit CIAA Southern Division opponent Livingstone College at Jaycee Optimist Park in Salisbury, N.C. Starting times are 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
