Box Score Kaaliya Williams Leads The Lady Falcons With 20 Points and Seven Rebounds
RALEIGH, NC (Jan 21) – On Saturday, Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA) scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Saint Augustine's University in a 69-57 CIAA women's basketball loss to crosstown rival Shaw University at Spaulding Gymnasium.
Shakeisha Washington (Sr./Atlanta, GA) added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who led by two points at halftime. Kamya Renwicks (Fr./Baltimore, MD) chipped in nine points and Maiya Gibson (Jr./Randallstown, MD) registered eight points while Quiera Gilmore (R-Fr./Charlotte, NC) collected four steals for the Lady Falcons, who forced 22 Shaw turnovers and tallied 10 steals.
Both Williams and Gibson scored eight points in the first half for the Lady Falcons, who entered halftime ahead 35-33 after shooting 40 percent from the floor. They led at the break for the second time in their last three games. The Lady Falcons (0-3 Southern Division, 3-18 overall) cooled off in the second half, shooting 27.6 percent as they were outscored 36-22.
LaQuisha Taylor sparked the Lady Bears with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Bianca Maxwell added 15 points and 12 rebounds and Stephanie Custodio had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Lady Bears, who shot 40.7 percent for the contest and outrebounded the Lady Falcons 47-34.
The Lady Bears (1-1 Southern Division, 6-13 overall) made 19 of 28 free throw attempts for 67.9 percent and the Lady Falcons were 7 of 10 for 70 percent. Both teams are tied for first in the CIAA in free throw percentage (70.4).
The Lady Falcons return home on Wednesday, Jan. 25 for a CIAA Southern Division contest against Livingstone College. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium.
