SAU Women's Basketball Falls To Chowan

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 24) – Quiera Gilmore (So./Charlotte, NC) scored 18 points for Saint Augustine's University in an 86-65 women's basketball non-conference loss to CIAA foe Chowan University on the first day of the FSU Thanksgiving Classic at Capel Arena on Friday.

Bianca Igwe (Jr./Tampa, FL) and Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) each added 12 points for the Lady Falcons, playing their fifth road game in 10 days. Williams grabbed a team-high eight rebounds followed by Igwe and Gilmore with six and five, respectively.

Led by Gilmore, Williams and Igwe, the Lady Falcons outscored the Hawks 46-42 in the paint and 28-12 in bench points but committed 25 turnovers, which the Hawks converted into 26 points. The Hawks also pulled down 21 offensive rebounds for 17 second chance points.

The Lady Falcons (2-4 overall) fell behind 25-16 at the end of the first period and trailed 43-33 at halftime. Kelsee Arnold (Jr./Fayetteville, GA) scored a layup to get the Lady Falcons within 45-37 early in the third period, but the Hawks (5-1 overall) outscored the Lady Falcons 31-12 in the period for a 74-45 lead. The Lady Falcons outscored the Hawks 20-12 in the fourth period for the final margin.

Dhyamond Crenshaw scored 23 points and added six rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Hawks, who shot 51.6 percent in the second half. Chantel Roberts contributed 22 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Falcons return to the court Saturday, Nov. 25, in the FSU Thanksgiving Classic against Elizabeth City State University. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
