Kaaliya Williams Scores 12 Points For The Lady Falcons

SALISBURY, NC (Feb 16) – On Wednesday, Feb. 15, Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA) scored 12 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 72-39 CIAA women's basketball loss to Livingstone College at New Trent Gymnasium.

Quiera Gilmore (R-Fr./Charlotte, NC) added nine points and three steals for the Lady Falcons, who made 11 of 15 free throws for 73.3 percent. The Lady Falcons lead the CIAA in free throw shooting percentage (71.1).

Aided by free throw shooting in the second quarter, the Lady Falcons erased an early 12-0 deficit and climbed back into the contest. Four consecutive free throws – two each by Williams and Maiya Gibson (Jr./Randallstown, MD) – and a jumper by Williams erased a double-digit deficit and pulled the Lady Falcons with 26-20 before going into halftime behind 28-20.

In the third period, the Lady Falcons deficit was between seven and 10 points but the Lady Blue Bears (5-4 Southern Division, 13-12 overall) went on a long run midway in the period which pushed the margin to 20 points. The deficit grew in the fourth quarter as the Lady Falcons were outscored 21-8.

Zena Lovette scored 16 points to lead four double-figure scorers for the Lady Blue Bears, who shot 40.9 percent. The Lady Blue Bears outscored the Lady Falcons 34-12 in bench points and 26-10 in points in the paint.

The Lady Falcons (0-9 Southern Division, 3-24 overall) will conclude the regular season at home against Fayetteville State University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. This will be the last home game for seniors Shakeisha Washington (Atlanta, GA) and Teeria Vaughan (Walterboro, SC). After the Fayetteville State contest, the Lady Falcons will enter the CIAA Tournament next week as the No. 6 Southern Division seed.
