Kaaliya Williams Scores 10 Points For The Lady Falcons
RALEIGH, NC (Feb 18) – On Saturday, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) ended the regular season with a 55-40 CIAA women's basketball loss to Fayetteville State University at Emery Gymnasium.
Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA) scored 10 points and Kelsee Arnold (So./Fayetteville GA) added nine points for the Lady Falcons, who finished sixth in the Southern Division. The Lady Falcons are 0-10 in the Southern Division and 3-25 overall heading into the CIAA Tournament next week.
Chinwendu Maduegbunam scored 13 points and De'Aira Smith added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Broncos, who finished fifth in the Southern Division. The Lady Broncos, who outrebounded the Lady Falcons 63-17 including 29-2 on the offensive glass, are 4-6 in the Southern Division and 8-17 overall. They outscored the Lady Falcons 23-0 in second chance points.
Arnold and Maiya Gibson (Jr./Randallstown, MD) scored five points apiece in the first half for the Lady Falcons, who trailed 30-23 at halftime. The Lady Falcons used a 4-0 run – keyed by Gibson's three-pointer – to cut an 11-point deficit to seven at the break.
The deficit was trimmed to five twice in the third period. The score was 32-27 after Arnold's layup but the Lady Broncos opened an 11-point lead by the end of the third period. Their lead stayed in double digits much of the fourth period.
The contest marked the conclusion of the regular-season collegiate careers of centers Shakeisha Washington (Sr./Atlanta, GA) and Teeria Vaughan (Sr./Walterboro, SC) and manager Keshell Evans. They were honored after the game along with three SAU men's basketball student-athletes.
