Lady Falcons Split Twinbill In Laurinburg, N.C.
 

RALEIGH, NC (Feb 19) – On Sunday, Korey Hill (Sr./Virginia Beach, VA) drove in three runs as Saint Augustine's University edged St. Andrews University 8-7 in the first game of a softball doubleheader at Knights Field in Laurinburg, N.C. In the second game, the Lady Falcons fell 6-5 to the Knights.

Makayla August (Fr./Palm Springs, CA) added two RBIs and scored two runs in the first game for the Lady Falcons.  Marley Parker (Jr./Langley, British Columbia) also scored twice in the victory.

The Lady Falcons scored five runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-5 lead. Tyanna Petersen (Sr./Brooklyn Park, MN) scored on a throwing error and Tamera Sanchez (Fr./Sacramento, CA) scored on an RBI groundout by Haili Pettifer (Jr./Langley, British Columbia). Parker scored on an error and Hill scored August and Meranda Zanni (Sr./Phoenix, OR) on a two-run single.

The Knights pulled within one run after scoring once in the fifth and seventh innings. They threatened again with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh but August recorded a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the win for the Lady Falcons.

August was the winning pitcher after scattering eight hits in seven full innings. The Lady Falcons totaled 11 hits including a triple by August and a double by Zanni, who batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.

The Lady Falcons struck first in the second inning when August scored on Hill's RBI groundout. The Knights scored four runs in the bottom half of the second but the Lady Falcons sliced the margin to 4-3 in the third inning on Zanni's sacrifice fly which scored Pettifer. The Knights scored once in the bottom third before the Lady Falcons erupted for five runs in the fourth.

In the second game, the Lady Falcons led 5-3 heading into the seventh but the Knights (6-8 overall) scored three runs to steal the win. Both Sanchez and Zanni led the Lady Falcons with two RBIs each and Pettifer scored two runs.

The Lady Falcons (2-4 overall) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Pettifer scored on Zanni's sacrifice fly. The Knights tied the score in the bottom first and added two runs in the second for a 3-1 lead. In the third inning, the Lady Falcons scored when Zanni drove in Pettifer with a single.

The lead changed hands in the sixth as the Lady Falcons scored three runs for a 5-3 lead. Hill's RBI single scored August and Sanchez's RBI double scored Hill and Petersen. But the Knights rallied in the seventh to get the win.

The Lady Falcons totaled 12 hits and the Knights had 13 in the second game. August recorded her second triple of the day and Haley Sessoms (Fr./Kenansville, NC) collected two doubles for the Falcons. Sanchez also earned a double.

The Lady Falcons play again Monday, Feb. 27 against Benedict College in a doubleheader in Columbia, S.C. The games will start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
