RALEIGH, NC (Feb 5) – On Saturday, Feb. 4, Jasmine Rios (Jr./Greensboro, NC) and Korey Hill (Sr./Virginia Beach, VA) each drove in a run for Saint Augustine's University in season-opening softball losses to Barton College at Jeffries Field in Wilson, N.C. The Lady Falcons lost 8-0 in the first game and 3-2 in the second game.
Both players collected an RBI in the third inning to put the Lady Falcons ahead 2-0. Rios smacked a triple to right field which scored Haili Pettifer (Jr./Langley, British Columbia) and Hill hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Rios. Barton (2-0 overall) scored one run in the third inning and two runs in the fifth inning to pull out the win.
Pettifer was 3-for-3 at the plate with one run scored for the Lady Falcons, who totaled seven hits. Marley Parker (Jr./Langley, British Columbia) and Akera McPhaul (Jr./Greensboro, NC) each had a hit.
The first game was quite a contrast from the second contest. The Lady Falcons were held hitless in the five-inning loss.
The Lady Falcons are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 15 against Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. Both teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
