CHARLOTTE, NC (Feb 9) – On Wednesday, Feb. 8, CIAA Rookie of the Week Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA) scored 19 points and Kelsee Arnold (So./Fayetteville, GA) added 14 points, six rebounds and five steals for Saint Augustine's University in a 73-57 CIAA women's basketball loss to Johnson C. Smith University at Brayboy Gymnasium.

Maiya Gibson (Jr./Randallstown, MD) chipped in nine points and Kamya Renwicks (Fr./Baltimore, MD) contributed six points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Lady Falcons, who shot 43.6 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Falcons lead the CIAA in free throw percentage.


Both Williams and Gibson scored nine points in the second half. Gibson opened the second half with two consecutive three-pointers to get the Lady Falcons within 34-31 but the Golden Bulls responded with 14 straight points for a 48-31 lead. The Lady Falcons trailed by double digits the rest of the contest.

Maiya Green scored 19 points and Kendall Adams and Anika Jones each added 11 points for the Golden Bulls, who shot 50 percent for the floor and behind the three-point arc. The Golden Bulls also made 76.2 percent of their free throw attempts.

The Golden Bulls (6-1 Southern Division, 17-6 overall) led by double digits much of the second quarter, but Arnold connected on two free throws and Ke-Ashe Lee (Jr./Roanoke, VA) added a free throw to cut the Lady Falcons deficit to 34-25 at halftime. Williams scored 10 points and Arnold had eight points for the Lady Falcons while Jones had eight points for the Golden Bulls in the first half.

After playing three consecutive road games, the Lady Falcons (0-7 Southern Division, 3-22 overall) will host crosstown rival Shaw University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 11. Game time is 2 p.m.
