CIAA Game Set For Lions Park At 12 P.M.
RALEIGH, NC (April 10) – On Tuesday, April 11, Saint Augustine's University will host Virginia Union University in a CIAA softball contest at Lions Park. The 12 p.m. contest is free and open to the public.
The game was originally scheduled March 18 as part of the CIAA Softball Round-Up. It was postponed due to wet fields caused by inclement weather.
The Lady Falcons (8-1 CIAA, 13-9 overall) have one of the best CIAA records this season and are sitting in first place in the league's Southern Division at 6-0. They have won seven consecutive games including a doubleheader sweep of archrival Shaw University on Saturday, April 8 at Lions Park. The scores were 12-0 and 6-3 on Senior Day.
Six Lady Falcons are ranked in the CIAA's top 10 in batting average including conference co-leader Haley Sessoms (Fr./Oakboro, NC). She is among five Lady Falcons batting over .400. As a unit, the Lady Falcons rank sixth nationally in Division II in batting average (.372).
Meranda Zanni (Sr./Phoenix, OR) is one of four CIAA pitchers sporting an unbeaten record (5-0). Makayla August (Fr./Palm Springs, CA) is 6-3 as a pitcher and ranks first nationally in Division II in triples per game.
Virginia Union is 3-7 in the CIAA and 6-10 overall. Marisha Bates of the Lady Panthers shares the CIAA batting average lead with Sessoms of the Lady Falcons. Both players are batting .463.
After playing Saint Augustine's University, Virginia Union will face Livingstone College at Lions Park Tuesday at 2 p.m.
