Lady Falcons Bounce Back In Second Game After First Divisional Loss
 
 
RALEIGH, NC (April 23) – On Saturday, April 22, Saint Augustine's University came back to win game two 7-2 after falling in game one 8-3 to Winston-Salem State University in a CIAA Softball Doubleheader at Twin City Park in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
The loss was the first in the division this season for the Lady Falcons. Despite the defeat, the Lady Falcons will visit Fayetteville State University for the Southern Division title in a season-finale doubleheader Sunday, April 30 at a time to be announced. The Lady Falcons (7-1 Southern Division, 10-2 CIAA, 15-10 overall) lead the Lady Broncos (6-1 Southern Division, 10-2 CIAA, 17-15) by half a game in the division standings.
 
The Lady Falcons regrouped to win the second game behind the pitching and hitting of Makayla August (Fr./Palm Springs, CA). The first-year pitcher scattered six hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking one for the victory. At the plate, August was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Akera McPhaul (Jr./Greensboro, NC) had a two-run homer.
 
Marley Parker (Jr./Langley, British Columbia) was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored and Meranda Zanni (Sr./Phoenix, OR) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Haili Pettifer (Jr./Langley, British Columbia) was 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Lady Falcons, who collected 10 hits.
 
Jasmine Holloman homered for the Lady Rams in the first inning, and the 1-0 lead held up until the fifth inning when the Lady Falcons warmed up offensively. In the fifth, Haley Sessoms (Fr./Kenansville, NC) scored on an RBI by Korey Hill (Sr./Virginia Beach, VA) and McPhaul scored herself and Hill on a home run for a 3-1 lead.
 
The Lady Falcons increased the lead to 5-1 in the sixth when August scored Zanni and Parker on a two-run single. After the Rams scored a run in the same inning on Chyna Riley's homer, the Lady Falcons finished the scoring in the seventh when Parker doubled home Zanni, and Pettifer scored Parker on a single.
 
In the first game, the Lady Falcons trailed 3-0 in the second inning but rallied within one run in the third when Parker scored Hill and Tamiera Sanchez (Fr./Sacramento, CA) on a single. The Rams scored once in the third for a 4-2 lead, but Jasmine Rios (Jr./Greensboro, NC) pulled the Lady Falcons within one again when she scored on an error in the fifth inning.
 
Unfortunately, the Lady Falcons would not score again. The Lady Rams opened an 8-3 with four runs in the sixth inning.
 
Parker had two RBIs and Rios hit a double for the Lady Falcons, who registered six hits. Destiny Snipes recorded four RBIs for the Rams (4-4 Southern Division, 7-6 CIAA, 11-29 overall), who had seven hits.
