RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 12) – Saint Augustine's University begins the CIAA Southern Division portion of its women's basketball schedule on Saturday, Jan. 13, against Winston-Salem State University at the Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Game time is 2 p.m. for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons matched up well against the Rams last season. Both games went down to the wire with the Lady Falcons losing 70-69 at home and 57-51 on the road.
The bulk of that squad is back including leading scorer Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA), who averages 13.4 points per contest. She currently ranks fourth nationally in Division II in free throw percentage (93.7). Bianca Igwe (Jr./Tampa, FL) leads the Lady Falcons in rebounds per game (5.9) and Kamya Renwicks (So./Baltimore, MD) ranks ninth in the CIAA in assists per game (3.3) and steals per game (2.0). As a team, the Lady Falcons (1-5 CIAA, 4-11 overall) are 10th in the nation in turnovers forced (23.7).
The Rams (1-5 CIAA, 6-9 overall) come into Saturday's game having lost five of their last seven contests. Kandace Tate averages 14.1 points on a league-best 56.4 percent shooting and Brionna Tate averages 13.8 points. Tiana Edwards averages 12.7 points and ranks 20th nationally in Division II in three-pointers made (43).
After visiting the Rams Saturday, the Lady Falcons will face Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., next Saturday, Jan. 20.
